~ 8.28.06 Leaving Soon ~ Hi there! I thought it would be a good idea to update this page before leaving for my trip. I'm about to head off to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. After a month hanging around I'll be heading to Los Angeles. I can't believe that in just about a week I'm going to be celebrating at a Full Moon Party on the island of Kho Phanang! The trip is going to be so amazing, I'll have my camera with me and will upload plenty of pictures when I return. So, it's been a really busy year so far. It's nice to have this break, but once I get back there's still lots of work to do! Peace out, yo! -Evan P.S. Make sure you check out my updated bio & picture page! ~ 12.08.05 ~ I Are A College Graduate! I've officially graduated college! That's right, Magna Cum Laude with a B.F.A. in Jazz Performance. My final GPA was about 3.65. So, what does this mean? Well, it means that I can play bass a lot better now than when I entered college. Not sure what else it means. I went back to school to get better, and succeeded. Other things are going on, too. New music by the Domestics is about to be finished. Everything is mixed and we've just got to approve the final masters. Also, in a few weeks I'll be playing the cd release party for David L.K. Murphy - a singer songwriter who's new cd I play on. I think the cd is quite good and I suggest trying to make it to the show. My Tues-Thurs jazz duo gig in Washington Heights will continue until September. I'm going to take a vacation and go to Southeast Asia. Right now, the countries I plan on hitting include Thailand, Cambaodia and Laos. If anyone has friends in these places or travel tips please pass them on to me! That's all for now, see you at the shows!
~ 12.08.05 ~ It's been some time since I last updated this page....got to get better at that... It's sure as heck not because I'm lazy! This year has definitely been my busiest year ever. I've played over 100 shows and have played on a bunch of fruitful recording sessions. One especially newsworthy item is the release of my first jazz cd, a duo cd called Double Play, recorded with guitarist Peter Tascio. Peter recorded it right before leaving on an extensive job playing jazz on a cruise ship. He returns next week and we can't wait to start playing music together again! There is also excitement circling around The Domestics! We've managed to catch the ear of producer Charles Newman - who produces the Magnetic Fields & Stephen Merritt - and he agreed to record some of our new music. We've started recording and the music will be ready early next year! Other stuff is happening, too. My choir is about to begin work on Mendelssohn's Elijah. Last week I recorded upright bass on a very cool group of songs by David L.K. Murphy. It looks like I'm going to be playing some shows with him, too. Finally, my yet-to-have-an-official-name Jazz Quartet recorded an album of material that I hope to get out some time in January. Ok, that's enough of an update for now! Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukkah!!
~ 9.14.05 ~ As expected it was a very busy summer. Almost two straight months of traveling, including a few valuable weeks at the side of Francois Rabbath! And since returning, lots and lots of playing. Guitarist Peter Tascio and I have completed recording our jazz duo cd Double Play; now he's gone playing music on a cruise ship for three months. Taking his place at Java's Brewin' is my close friend, pianist David de Geus. That's every Tuesday, and on Thursdays I've been doing the gig with guitarist Kostas Konstantinou. Occasionally other players come and sit in with us and it is quite a treat for me to be playing with these fine musicians. Lots of news on the horizon for the Domestics. We've been doing preproduction for our first album, which we hope to have finished by the end of the year. We have our first official manager and continue to play exciting gigs. Eric Shaw (the drummer) and I have been really ripping it up! Make sure to check out our myspace page. The Suit of Lights are going to be shooting their first video in October. Our CD is available nationally in stores and can also be found on iTunes. It's tough having a band with six members who all play in other bands, but I think we're going to try to start rehearsing again soon. Other things going on....Choir & Orchestra rehearsals have started up again. A few years ago I did some playing with the fabulous singer/pianist Steve Espinola and we've been talking about doing some more playing together in the coming weeks. I've also had the privilege to meet the banjo playing Curtis Eller (the Domestics played on the same bill as him in Philadelphia) and I'm really hoping to find some time to meet up with him. I think that's it....as you can tell, I'm busy as ever, but I'm doing what I love!! Thanks for reading!
~ 5.12.05 ~ Things have been quite busy (and exciting) over the last few months. Those of you who know me know that I love to play out as much as possible, and this year looks like it might be my busiest yet. I've started a jazz duo with guitarist Peter Tascio and we've been performing every Thursday uptown, doing our "live rehearsals" for a recording project this summer. The Domestics have been hot as of late, also. We recording the theme song for a new show in production called The D Word and we've been working with a new manager, playing some showcases and still working on new material. The summer is going to be really busy, as I'll be spending a week at a jazz workshop in Lexington, Kentucky and three weeks at a classical workshop in Canada at Domaine Forget, near Quebec City. In August I'll be going to a city called Utrect, near Amsterdam, for my best friend's wedding. Sadly, I'm sure that before I know it summer will be over. See you at the shows!
~ 3.15.05 ~ I've agreed to play a show with the Old Nationals...in the past, when I've agreed to play a gig it has lasted much longer than one gig. I don't have much time, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. I spent a chunk of January in Paris studying with Francois Rabbath. Check out some pictures I took while there.~ 1.23.05 ~ Let's see...it's been a while since this "news" page has been updated. That is not due to lack of movement, however. A lot has happened over the last 4+ months. One of the biggest changes is my decision to quit the Inevitable Breakups...but after leaving them I had a lot more time to devote to practice and all the projects I'm involved in. The main one being the Domestics. We've changed some old songs and have written a handful of new ones. And they ROCK!! Getting funds to record an album hasn't been easy, but if we ever get to put these songs down I'm sure a lot of people will be into it big time. With the boredom of winter setting in, I decided to finally give in to Joe Darone and become the bass player for Suit of Lights. Joe and I have been working with each other for the most part of the last 5 years, and it is a pleasure to be in a band with him again. He asked me three times previously to be in the band, each time I said "yes" because I love the music so much, but then reality set in and I realized that I just didn't have time. Now, I'm going to make time for it. The rehearsals have been great & once we start playing live this band is going to KICK ASS. In between the Domestics and Suit of Lights I'm still in the two orchestras (Westchester Conservatory & the Band of Long Island) and singing with the Grace Church Choral Society. David de Geus (piano) and I also have some jazz gigs coming up. If you have time, check out all the pages of this site, since all of them (except the bio) have been updated. And make sure you sign the email list!
~ 8.04.04 ~ The Inevitable Breakups have finished recording and are now in the post-production process. The "projects" page has been updated with lots of mp3 files. ~ 5.28.04 ~ The Inevitable Breakups have released the 45/cd single "Stephanie", check out thegreat cover. In July we enter Big Blue Meanie studios in Jersey City, NJ to record our first full-length. Arun Venkatesh (Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, Bouncing Souls, Holiday Plan) will be co-producing with the band. The Domestics have been shopping their EP Tight Spot, which is available on their website. Joe Darone's Suit of Lights is finally mixed and due to the mastering plant next week. I play on four songs. The Black Seas' new cd has been mastered and is awaiting pressing. I play on a few songs. The Trouble Dolls cd Sticky has been released internationally! I play on the majority of the record. |
